Introduction

Distribution and Cultivation Process of Aloe vera

History of Aloe vera

Aloe vera was found naturally in old times, but now it is easily available in gardens as a gardening plant. Aloe vera plants were found naturally in the Arabian southern hemisphere, East Africa, Capodave, Madeira Island and neighboring countries.  Later, the plant was carried to China and other parts of the world. 

Cultivation

Aloe Vera plants are propagated from both flowers and seeds, although they are not used in traditional farming methods. They are usually cultivated by vegetative propagation. Regions with hot climate and heavy rainfall are suitable for Aloe Vera cultivation. The cultivation is more or less good in all soils though it is more productive in well-drained soils. The roots can be transplanted from one place to another to relocate the plant. The land should be well ploughed 2-3 times to prepare a bed for the Aloe vera plantation. 1hactre of land can hold about 1thousand roots of aloe vera. The plant should be planted in a 90*90cm (length*width) distance. Aloe vera cultivation can be done in two seasons of the year- June-July and September-October. Generally Aloe vera is a low maintenance plant that doesn’t need pest management due to its high resistance towards insects. Still, 3okg of nitrogen can be used in per hectare of land to increase its productivity. Per hectare of cultivated land can produce up to 15 tons of Aloe vera leaves.

The above-mentioned processes are generally used in high-production areas. For domestic use, Aloe vera plants are planted in pots or pot-like small areas. Although it has been said above that aloe vera juice is used for the treatment of various diseases, it is very important to take precautions in its quantity and preparation. Otherwise, there is a risk of harm. In most cases, scientifically prepared materials should be used. The following are some of its physical disadvantages of using:

  • People having allergy from aloe vera should prohibit the use of any product made from aloe extract. Otherwise it may cause irritation, inflammation, skin redness etc. The Alloin and Barbillon substance present in it are the main reason for such issues. Thus, people having allergic problem should first consult a specialist before using it. 
  • Consuming aloe vera juice for a long time may cause colon cancer. 
  • Consuming aloevera juice in the period of pregnancy may cause uterus infection. Moreover, breastfeeding women may face stomach related problems from it. 
  • Aloe vera juice and Furosemide substance should not be consumed together, otherwise it may lead to lower level of potassium in body which results in decreased blood sugar levels. 
  • Direct application of Aloe vera juice or gel in cuts may do damage to the skin.
