Plant description

Bathua is a fast-growing straight, branched summer annual herb or herbaceous plant that grows up to a height of 10-150 cm with a maximum height of about 5 feet. It is found growing in almost all places; especially along roadsides, gardens, grasslands and waste areas, preferring fertile, loamy and well-drained soil. The stems are angular or ridged, rising up and usually with purple, pink or yellow stripes. The mature stems are medium sized adapted vertically by red, pink, purple, yellow or thin green stripes. The leaves are variegated, simple, green on the upper side and white on the underside. The leaves are 3-6 inches long and 3-6 inches wide. The flowers are small leafless, gray-green in color and grow on the stems. The flowers can be of gray to green. Flowers bloom from May to November. The seeds are disc shaped with glossy black, brown or brownish green. The seeds are round, flattened with a marginal, greenish-green to black color.
